GIS Mapping Services BPA Transmission Services relies on Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to provide customers and constituents with a visual of BPA's transmission systems in their region. GIS is a computer system designed to capture, store, process, analyze, and display geographic data. Geographic data can be defined as any data that has a locational (or spatial) component. This special computer mapping system allows users to store, retrieve and analyze spatial data. For example, a transmission line will have a location expressed as a series of latitude and longitude points and may also have information on it's kilovolt rating and operating name.
