GIS Mapping Services
BPA Transmission Services relies on Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to provide customers and constituents with a visual of BPA's transmission systems in their region.
GIS is a computer system designed to capture, store, process, analyze, and display geographic data. Geographic data can be defined as any data that has a locational (or spatial) component. This special computer mapping system allows users to store, retrieve and analyze spatial data. For example, a transmission line will have a location expressed as a series of latitude and longitude points and may also have information on it's kilovolt rating and operating name.

We use GIS for transmission system planning, design, construction and maintenance activities. It is an important tool used to help site transmission lines and facilities, to identify property features to conduct studies that require analysis of the geographic distribution of data.
