Geomagnetically Induced Currents Measured in BPA Transformers, Near-Real-Time

Charged particles from the sun impacting Earth's magnetic field sometimes introduce significant currents into BPA's transmission system. These currents can be measured on the wire connecting a 3-phase power transformer's neutral to ground. The chart below illustrates GIC data from 11 BPA substations.
